A pregnant vegetable vendor has won Thailand's top lottery prize of 6 million baht (S$234,978) after an elderly figure materialised in her dreams, telling her to bet on ticket number 173770.
According to Khaosod English, 25-year-old Inthira Saisun is from the Lahu ethnic minority.
Inthira, who sells vegetables at the Kamphaeng Phet shopping centre market in Mueang district, won the Jun. 1 draw.
Thai reporters were tipped off to the news shortly after the Thai government’s lottery office released the results.
Dreamt of number
Inthira told reporters that she dreamed of an elderly person who instructed her to buy the ticket.
The elderly figure told her to make merit on their behalf if she won.
The next day, a lottery ticket peddler passed her stall as she was working, and Inthira spotted the number 770 among the tickets, which matched her dream.
According to Khaosod English, there were two tickets with that number, but she could only afford one.
Inthira said she did not expect to win and burst into tears when the results were revealed.
Five months pregnant and deep in debt
She said she was struggling with vegetable supply debts that left her with just enough money to restock her stall.
Fellow storekeepers congratulated her after the news spread throughout the market.
Inthira plans to donate part of the proceeds to a temple in her home village of Doi Muser in the northwestern Tak province.
She says this is to fulfil the promise she made to the figure in her dream.
Inthira also credited her unborn child as a possible source of good fortune.
She plans to continue selling vegetables after her win, reported Khaosod English.
