This was allegedly after the man found out he was being recorded and had vulgarities hurled his way.
A video of the incident was put on TikTok by the youth on May 24.
The video then became unavailable on May 25, after it was up for about a day.
What video showed
According to the video, the man was seen being recorded from a distance.
A voice off-camera could be heard saying: "Haha, n****. No bike. Haha, poor. Broke. Can't even have a bicycle."
The comments were apparently directed at the man seen at the foot of Block 335A Yishun Street 31.
The man then ran towards the person recording the video.
He appeared agitated and got to the youth who was recording him within 5 seconds.
The man then used his right hand to smack the recording device out of the youth's hand.
Another voice off-camera could be heard saying: "What you gonna do about it, boy?"
The entire sequence of events was caught on camera.
Second TikTok by youth
In a separate TikTok addressed to Mothership, the youth who posted about being assaulted claimed that he and his friend were being accused by the man of stealing an Anywheel shared bicycle.
In response, the youth retaliated by shouting at the man and recording him.
The youth claimed that the handphone did not break as he held on to it after the man smacked his hand.
The statement also claimed that the youth's father was made aware of the incident, and the matter was reported to the police.
Man responds
Subsequently, in a post on May 25, the man who was accused of attacking the youth apparently shared his side of the story, which was posted by Sgfollowsall on Instagram.
He apparently also made a police report.
Based on the contents of the report, the man claimed that he spotted two youths damaging a shared bicycle and called out their behaviour.
He claimed that the youth hurled vulgarities at him, such as "F*ck your mother n****", and started recording him.
He then confronted the youths and shoved the phone away.
He was then informed by a friend that a video of him was put up on social media and had garnered 25,000 views at the time he first saw it.
The video had more than 200,000 views before it was removed.
In response to Mothership's queries, the police confirmed that a police report was lodged and investigations are ongoing.
