A food delivery rider in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, who was caught on CCTV allegedly taking part in a customer’s order later returned to apologise, saying he acted impulsively because he was extremely hungry.

CCTV footage of the incident began circulating online on May 11, notably on Threads.

The footage reportedly showed a male delivery rider arriving at a customer’s home carrying three bags of food.

After placing the bags outside the unit and taking a photo to confirm delivery, the rider was then seen picking up one of the bags before leaving.

Customer later discovered missing food

According to Malaysian media, the customer, identified as Jeffrey Izad, realised part of the order was missing after returning home.

After reviewing CCTV footage and discovering what had happened, Izad reportedly filed a complaint with the food delivery platform and uploaded the footage online.

Izad said he was able to identify the rider by the name on the football jersey he wore.

The video was initially posted on Threads before later being removed. However, it had been reuploaded by other accounts.

Rider later returned to apologise

Izad later shared that the rider returned to his house that afternoon to apologise in person.

The rider admitted he had taken the food impulsively because he was very hungry at the time.

He also offered a replacement for the food he had taken, even though Izad said he had already gotten a refund.

He also reportedly said the incident had triggered a wave of online backlash, with netizens leaving critical comments on his wife’s posts.

After hearing the apology, Izad and his wife decided to forgive the rider and remove the viral video.

Izad also reportedly reminded the rider that if he genuinely needed help, he could have asked for assistance instead.

He later apologised for the harsh remarks he made while reacting to the incident, saying anyone would be upset if they had their food stolen from right under their nose.
