S'pore car workshop fined S$6,000 for illegally modifying vehicle exhaust systems on 5 occasions from 2022-2025
Since 2021, 26 workshops have been charged in court for illegally modifying vehicles.
A vehicle and maintenance workshop in Singapore was fined S$6,000 on Mar. 26, 2026 for illegally modifying vehicle exhaust systems on five separate occasions between 2022 and 2025, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Apr. 8.
"It is an offence to illegally modify any vehicles," LTA added in its social media post about the case.
Since 2021, 26 workshops have been charged in court for illegally modifying vehicles, LTA also revealed.
In a previous social media post, LTA highlighted some of the examples of enforcement action taken against illegal modification of vehicles, such as tinted windows.
LTA also explained in the video that enforcement actions are meant to ensure public safety.
Penalties raised
Penalties for illegal modifications were recently raised from Feb. 27, 2026.
Individual offenders face up to S$20,000 fine or two years’ imprisonment, or both.
Non-individuals, such as workshops, can be fined up to S$40,000.
Penalties are doubled for repeated offenders.
