In separate video footage, emergency and medical personnel were also seen gathering outside the school and responding to the situation.

Not classified as a terror incident

Ciftci clarified that the shooting was a “personal attack” and not a terror incident.

According to Kahramanmaras Governor Mukerrem Unluer, the shooter was armed with five weapons and seven magazines, which were believed to belong to his father, who was a former police officer.

His father was detained.

The shooter allegedly entered two classrooms with fifth-grade students and fired indiscriminately.

The shooter then shot and killed himself.

In Turkey, fifth-grade students are usually aged 10 to 11.

Separate shooting incident

This incident occurred after another school shooting on the previous day, Apr. 14.

A former student opened fire at a school located in the province of Sanliurfa, southeastern Turkey.

A total of 16 people were wounded.

Among the wounded were 10 students, four teachers, a canteen employee and a police officer.

The shooter, a 19-year-old, was armed with a shotgun.

According to Sanliurfa province's governor, Hasan Sildak, the shooter was cornered inside the building when police intervened.

The shooter then used the shotgun to shoot himself, resulting in his death.
