S'pore man, 51, arrested for suspected involvement in Jurong West loanshark harassment
The main gate and door of a residential unit in Jurong West were splashed with red paint.
A 51-year-old man, who was arrested by the police for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment, will be charged in court on Apr. 16, 2026, under the Moneylenders Act 2008.
This comes after the police were alerted at about 6:15am on Apr. 14, 2026, to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Jurong West Street 91.
Its main gate and door were splashed with red paint, an Apr. 15, 2026, police news release noted.
Arrested
Following this, officers from Jurong Police Division and Bedok Police Division arrested the man on the same day after establishing his identity through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras.
Preliminary investigations revealed that he is believed to be involved in other similar cases of loanshark harassment islandwide.
The release noted that for first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine of between S$5,000 and S$50,000, with up to five years' jail, and up to six strokes of the cane.
According to the release, members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not work with or assist them in any way.
The public can call the police at "999" if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities.
