Accident in Jalan Bukit Merah: Man, 26, arrested for driving without valid licence

A 26-year-old man was arrested for driving without a valid licence in the aftermath of an accident that left a van facing the opposite direction near the junction of Jalan Bukit Merah and Kim Tian Road on the evening of Apr. 17, 2026.

A car appeared to have hit a van from behind.

According to a Mothership reader, Tan, the accident took place in front of Block 133 Jalan Bukit Merah at around 5:30pm.

Tan, who lives in the area, heard the sounds form the accident from his home.

Based on images he provided, a van and a car were seen stationary on the a three-lane road.

Only one lane was passable.

The van was positioned against the flow of traffic.

Vehicles damaged

In addition, photos showed that the van's rear was dented.

The car's front bumper was also damaged, which fell on the road.

A man was also seen with his hands on the rear of a police car, and a few officers were standing around him.

In another photo, a person who appeared to be the same man could be seen getting into the police car.

Accident

Responding to Mothership's queries, the police confirmed they were alerted at about 5:30pm on Apr. 17, 2026 to an accident involving a car and a van along Jalan Bukit Merah.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed they were alerted at about 5:25pm to the accident.

SCDF's assistance was not required.

A 26-year-old man was arrested for driving without a valid licence and police investigations are ongoing.
