Accounts belonging to Amos Yee have appeared on dating platforms Tinder and Hinge, though both profiles have since been removed by the respective platforms.

Purported accounts

On Apr. 17, a photo of what appeared to be a Tinder profile was posted on an X account believed to belong to Yee, who is a convicted sex offender in the U.S. and was recently deported back to Singapore.

From the photo, the profile's description read: "I'm Amos Yee. Like seriously. Famous political activist in Singapore, I blog and make videos fighting for freedom of expression and free food and healthcare for all Singaporeans."

According to Stomp, the profile description continued with some claims:

"Been to prison like four times and I’m proud of it lol. Pretty much a nerd, likes reading, YouTube videos, movies and anime. Self-development is super important to me.

I try to treat people with love and kindness, I meditate and exercise daily. Loves great conversations. Looking for someone to deeply connect with."

The profile also indicated that Yee was seeking a long-term relationship, though noting that "short term OK", and described him as bisexual with listed interests including Harry Potter, film festivals, and nature.

In response to the prompt "Life's too short for...", the profile stated: "Go to school for 15 years, then get a miserable job for the rest of your life. Go do something scary and out of the norm, do something great."

Several photos on the profile reportedly included images of Yee shirtless.

Four days later, on Apr. 21, the same X account posted an additional two photos.

The first photo appeared to be a screenshot of a notification indicating that a Tinder account had been banned for violating Tinder's Terms of Use or Community Guidelines.

The second showed what appeared to be a confirmation that an appeal against the ban had been submitted and was under review.

The X post was captioned: "Literally did nothing but filled out the profile. By virtue of simply being Amos Yee..."

Separately, a user on a Singapore-based Reddit thread posted a screenshot of what was said to be Yee's Discord server, where a notice from Hinge purportedly informed him that his account had been banned and removed for violating the platform's Terms of Service.

In response to Mothership's queries, Yee confirmed making the accounts about a week ago, adding that the accounts have since been banned.

He said he had been told that his profiles were "inappropriate", which Yee disagreed with, claiming that he had never harassed anyone on those sites.

Yee said he had since appealed both bans, but his appeals were denied.

Convicted criminals not permitted on platforms

Mothership understands that Hinge's policy does not permit any misuse that could put minors at risk, with accounts found to be in violation subject to removal.

The platform's Terms of Use also bar anyone who has been convicted of, or has pleaded no contest to, a felony or any violent or sexual crime from creating or maintaining an account.

Users are also encouraged to report any concerning content or experiences, either on the app or out on a date, to allow the team to investigate and take any necessary action.

Hinge's policies also encourage users to report any concerning content or behaviour — whether encountered on the app or in person.

The platform also has systems in place to detect, remove, and prevent accounts operated by bad actors from compromising the integrity of its community.

Similarly, a check on Tinder's website revealed that the platform's Summary of Terms explicitly states that registered sex offenders and convicted felons are not permitted to use the service.

Background

Yee first gained public attention in 2015 for publishing videos and posts that led to a jail term for deliberately wounding religious feelings.

He was subsequently granted asylum by U.S. authorities in 2018 under the first Trump Administration despite objections raised during the proceedings.

While in the U.S., Yee faced further legal difficulties, having been convicted of offences relating to the solicitation and possession of child sexual abuse material.

He was deported back to Singapore in 2026.

Upon his arrival at Changi Airport on the morning of Mar. 20, Yee was arrested.

The Ministry of Defence (Mindef) and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) subsequently confirmed that he had been charged with offences under the Enlistment Act.

He was handed three charges, including for failing to report for medical screening under the Enlistment Act from Apr. 26, 2016, to Mar. 19, 2026, a period of nine years.

He is also accused of leaving Singapore without a valid exit permit on two separate occasions — Dec. 13, 2015, to Apr. 19, 2016, and from Dec. 15, 2016, to Mar. 19, 2026.

Yee was subsequently released on bail from Changi Prison on Mar. 26, after his mother furnished a bail bond of S$10,000.
