In the footage, he can be heard saying:

“Shut up sh*tface. You know nothing… you’re educated, got master’s degree, got lots of money, big family, but you got no brains. Stupid a**hole.”

According to the caption accompanying the post, the dispute began after the woman allegedly asked him to place his bags on the floor instead of taking up two seats on Service 36B.

The contributor who submitted the video claimed the man became offended and started directing degrading remarks at the woman, before turning physical when she began recording him.

The video captures the man warning her not to use her phone before swinging his own device towards her twice.

One of the strikes appeared to land near her lap, where her bag was placed.

Bystander steps in

A male commuter filming the incident then intervened, telling the man:

“Eh yo bro, that’s not cool bro, come on, stop hitting her bro," later raising his voice with the same message.

He later moved closer and checked if the woman was alright, to which she replied that she was ok.

The Instagram caption alleged that the elderly man later called the police and claimed he had been cornered.

It also said he subsequently tried to snatch the woman’s phone and became more physical, prompting two male passengers to restrain him.

A brief clip at the end of the video captured raised voices from several commuters, although what happened off-camera is unclear.

In response to queries from Mothership, The Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed that a police report has been lodged.
