987FM DJ Sonia Chew reveals she auditioned for 'Bridgerton' season 4 lead role

987FM DJ Sonia Chew revealed that she had auditioned for a part in Netflix's Bridgerton, a Regency period romance series.
In an Instagram post on Mar. 9, the 34-year-old radio presenter, host and media personality shared her "confession".
While Chew did not explicitly say which role she auditioned for, she shared her audition tape in which she acted out a scene as main character Sophie Baek.
Baek was eventually portrayed by Australian actress Yerin Ha.
Audition details
Chew was on holiday in New York when her artist manager suggested she audition for the role.
Her artist manager told her that she would have to be fully available from mid-September 2024 to April 2025 if she was cast.
While the name of the show was not revealed to her at that point, it was the same production window for the filming of Bridgerton season four.
Chew would also need to speak in the "Received Pronunciation (RP)" accent, more commonly known as the Queen's English, and submit a self-tape the very next day.
She also had to sign a non-disclosure agreement as the matter was "highly confidential".
"I was like, why me? I am not an actress, I have not had any formal acting training... My actual job is a radio presenter, a host, and a media personality."
Nonetheless, she submitted headshots and introduced herself to the casting crew.
"Then came the challenge," she said. Chew had to film a self-introduction, this time while speaking in an RP accent.
'I just cringe when I watch it'
Unexpectedly, Chew passed the first round, and she was handed scripts to read.
"This was when the panic set in," she quipped.
Chew shared snippets of her audition process, including lines for the character of Baek, which eventually aired in the season's third episode.
She placed her clip side-by-side with what actually aired and said: "At least I tried".
"I am thrilled that I was given the opportunity to try but Yerin Ha, you are absolutely amazing. There's no one else that would have played that role, other than you. You slayed it."
Chew ended her video saying, "honestly, never in a million years would I have ever gotten that role".
