Yishun drink stall staff allegedly tells customer to put water bottle away due to 'shop rule'
The stall owner said it is their shop rule and there's "nothing wrong" with it.
A diner at Chong Pang Nasi Lemak had his dinner interrupted after a staff member from a drinks stall there told him to put his water bottle away.
After a bit more back and forth, the staff member reportedly took out a marker and wrote “No water bottle” on a “No outside food and drinks allowed” notice pasted on the wall.
The customer took issue with what he considered rude behaviour from the staff.
“I get that stalls can have rules about outside drinks, but this was completely unnecessary and super rude,” the customer said, adding, “Customers deserve basic courtesy, not this nonsense.”
He also expressed hope that the management would take action over the incident.
Not affiliated with Chong Pang Nasi Lemak
When Mothership reached out to Chong Pang Nasi Lemak, the eatery said they are not affiliated with the drink stall and are just fellow tenants at the same location.
"We are the only food stall here, and when customers come and dine in, they will be eating our food. So for us, it’s very unlikely that we encounter customers who bring outside food here. But for drinks, it’s not within our control as we are not affiliated," they said.
Mothership also spoke to the drink stall owner, who said it is their "shop rule" not to allow customers to bring water bottles to their shop.
"Actually for elderly and children below 10, we allow. But for grown adults, we advise them to put it in the bag or on the chair. Don't place on the table," he said, adding that there is "nothing wrong" with that.
He also referenced Japanese dining culture, where restaurants and bars require customers to order at least one food or drink item instead of charging just for the seat.
"Soon we will be like Japan.. if they dine in they have to buy food and drink.. if not the sit will be charge.. soon," he added.
