The owner of a juice stall at Alexandra Village Food Centre got his right hand accidentally caught in a sugarcane juicer for about two hours on Mar. 9, before rescuers managed to pull him free.

The incident happened at around 8:45pm, according to Lianhe Zaobao.

In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they received a call for assistance at about 9pm.

Firefighters and rescue specialists from the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) worked together in the rescue operation.

An SCDF paramedic administered pain relief, and monitored the stall owner's vital signs throughout.

The National University Hospital (NUH) also deployed an emergency medical team on site to provide medical support.

The man's hand was finally released at around 10:45pm, Zaobao reported.

He was subsequently conveyed to NUH, the SCDF said.

Appeared to be in pain

The owner of a nearby stall told Zaobao that the man was in his 60s, and has been working at the hawker centre for over 10 years.

According to Zaobao, who visited the scene, a grey-haired elderly man was being helped onto a stretcher, with the ring finger and little finger of his right hand bandaged.

He appeared to be in pain.

During the rescue operation, four of the man's family members and friends sat in front of the juice stall to watch proceedings.

A woman, believed to be his wife, and a young man appeared to be fighting back tears, Zaobao reported.
