International oil prices have recently seen upward pressure following "pre-emptive" strikes that the U.S. and Israel launched on Iran on Feb. 28, 2026.

The National Taxi Association (NTA) and ComfortDelGro have since agreed to increase petrol prices in stages, starting from Mar. 5, 2026, with an increase of S$0.05 per litre, Lianhe Zaobao reported, adding that further adjustments will be made to give drivers time to adapt to the increased costs.

According to Zaobao, as of 8am on Mar. 5, 2026, ComfortDelGro's petrol was priced at approximately S$1.93 per litre, about 34 per cent lower than retail prices.

Its diesel was priced at S$1.41 per litre, about 48 per cent lower than retail prices.

Prices up

Local retail prices of petrol have increased for two consecutive days, Zaobao reported.

As of 9am on Mar. 6, 2026, among the three major local petrol companies, Shell, Caltex, and Esso have raised the price of 95-octane fuel, commonly used by car owners, to S$2.97 per litre.

Sinopec's price was S$2.92 per litre, while SPC's price was S$2.91 per litre.

Zaobao reported that this is the second price increase since Shell, Caltex, Esso and Sinopec raised the price of 95-octane fuel from S$2.88 to S$2.92 per litre on Mar. 4, 2026.

On Mar. 9, The Straits Times reported that prices for premium Octane 98 grade might hit S$4 next week.

A check at a Caltex gas station showed the Platinum 98 prices at S$3.84.

National Taxi Association response

According to Zaobao, the NTA issued a statement pointing out that fuel costs are one of the main operating expenses for drivers, adding that any price increase will inevitably impact drivers' livelihoods.

The association said it is encouraged that ComfortDelGro has agreed to a "phased price adjustment" to make it easier for drivers to adapt.

In addition, it has also contacted other taxi operators to explore how to continue providing assistance to drivers under the current circumstances, Zaobao reported, adding that the association will closely monitor fuel price trends.

Responding to Mothership's queries, a spokesperson from NTA said prices recently began to increase.

The spokesperson added that prices have already increased by S$0.20 per litre to date and "might increase more in a few weeks' time".

ComfortDelGro response

Responding to Zaobao's queries, a spokesperson from ComfortDelGro said it is closely monitoring the impact of rising oil prices on drivers' livelihoods.

It will also cooperate with the NTA to alleviate drivers' burdens by absorbing part of the price increase at its own gas stations and launching targeted subsidies.

Grab response

Responding to Mothership's queries, a Grab spokesperson said: "We understand that rising fuel prices impacts the livelihoods of our driver and delivery-partners."

"To help manage their operating costs, we continue to provide exclusive fuel discounts through our strategic partnerships with Caltex, Shell and Sinopec," the spokesperson added.

The spokesperson said: "We are also extending additional support to our most active petrol-vehicle partners.

"Our full-time partners -- specifically Diamond and Sapphire members of our Emerald Circle programme -- will receive fuel vouchers."

"GrabRentals and GrabCab will also provide targeted fuel vouchers to their respective renter-partners," the spokesperson added.

"We remain in close consultation with unions and industry partners to monitor the situation and explore further avenues to support our partner community."

foodpanda

A foodpanda spokesperson said in a statement: "foodpanda has existing partnerships with stations such as Esso, Shell, and Caltex to offer discounts of 20 per cent off on fuel.

"Beyond fuel discounts, we also work with a range of partners to provide discounts on equipment and other services to help keep overall costs more manageable for delivery partners."

"In addition, we regularly review our fees and have increased fees for certain orders delivered by car to better reflect the higher operating costs associated with car deliveries," the spokesperson added.

"We will continue to review and enhance our support initiatives to ensure they meet the needs of our delivery partners."
