PM Wong to make introductory visit to Japan from Mar. 17-19

TelegramWhatsappSingapore Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong will be in Tokyo, Japan, from Mar. 17-19 in his first official visit to Japan since becoming PM Wong.

The visit will commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Japan, and is part of PM Wong's introductory visits to key partners in the region.

Guard of honour

While there, PM Wong will meet with Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who will host a working dinner.

He will also attend a Guard of Honour welcome ceremony.

PM Wong will attend meetings with several senior Japanese political and business leaders, as well as meet overseas Singaporeans based in Japan.

While this is PM Wong's first official visit to Japan as PM, this will not be the first time he meets Takaichi, having met her previously during October 2025's Asean Summit in Malaysia and APEC Summit in South Korea.

Accompany ministers

He will be accompanied by Cabinet ministers, Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Manpower Minister and Minister-in-Charge of Energy and Science & Technology Tan See Leng.

Also accompanying him will be Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and for Home Affairs Sim Ann, Minister of State for Digital Development and Information and for Health Rahayu Mahzam, and Minister of State for Defence Choo.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong will be Acting PM in PM Wong's absence.
