A man dressed in a Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) uniform has come under scrutiny after he allegedly appeared on live video chat platform OmeTV while in his bunk in camp.

A screenshot of the man in uniform was shared on Reddit on Feb. 18.

A forum user also alleged that the uniformed serviceman became verbally abusive during the random video chat session.

OmeTV randomly pairs users around the world so that strangers can have video chats and engage in text messaging.

Allegedly cursed at fellow live video chat user

The post, which appeared on the r/SingaporeRaw forum, included an image of the uniformed man in what appeared to be a room or bunk in camp with lockers visible in the background.

The man's face was obscured in the uploaded image.

The Reddit user also claimed that the man had used vulgarities in the chat, but it was unclear what prompted the exchange.

The user also did not confirm when the incident occurred.

The caption read: "Usually, idgaf about these kinds of small little things but this man swore at me."

Mixed reactions

The post quickly gained traction online, drawing mixed reactions from online commenters.

Some criticised the serviceman's alleged conduct, while others cautioned against jumping to conclusions without full context of the interaction.

Others suggested that the man's face was almost fully concealed, which would make any form of identification difficult.

Disciplinary actions to be taken: SAF

According to the Ministry of Defence (Mindef), the SAF has "clear policies and rules on unauthorised photography" in restricted areas.

"We do not condone the use of derogatory or abusive language," SAF said previously in a statement.

The SAF also said "appropriate disciplinary actions" will be carried out against those who have broken the rules or engaged in misconduct.
