The 34-year-old BMW driver, who allegedly evaded a police roadblock, drove dangerously during an hour-long pursuit, abandoned the car in Punggol, and fled on foot in the early hours of Feb. 17, was subsequently found a week later perched by a window ledge at Ubi Techpark.

He was arrested by the police.

Muhammad Danial Bin Jalaludin was given nine charges on Feb. 26.

Preliminary investigations revealed that he had been driving a deregistered vehicle fitted with a cloned number plate.

He was also allegedly driving without a valid licence and without insurance coverage.

The abandoned car has since been seized by the authorities.

The charges he faced included evasion of a police roadblock, dangerous driving, driving without a valid licence, using a motor vehicle without insurance coverage, using a deregistered vehicle, using a vehicle without a licence and using a false number plate.

Two other charges pertained to offences committed on the day of his arrest.

The man allegedly rode a motorcycle without a licence and insurance coverage in the industrial estate.

Man seen on ledge

According to Shin Min Daily News, a man was seen sitting on the ledge of a unit at 10 Ubi Crescent on Feb. 24.

The man was identified as the driver who evaded the police.

Inflatable safety life air packs were set up on the ground floor beneath where the man was seated at the window ledge.

Police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers were at the scene.

The police said they responded to the incident at an industrial unit in Ubi Techpark at about 2:15pm.

SCDF received a call for assistance at 2:20pm.

"As it was assessed that the man posed a danger to himself, officers from the Special Operations Command, Crisis Negotiation Unit and SCDF were also activated and responded to the incident," the police said.

Rescuers from the Disaster Assistance Rescue Team (DART) were on standby as a precautionary measure.

Man allowed door to be opened

At about 3:40pm, officers managed to enter the unit after the man voluntarily moved back inside and opened the door.

The man was arrested in connection with a police gazette issued for dangerous driving in a previous incident, as well as for suspected drug-related offences, the police said.

The arrested man and another man were suspected of using drugs at the unit at Ubi Techpark.

The police added: "The suspected drug-related offences have been referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau for investigations."

Several police vehicles were subsequently seen in the vicinity of Block 122A Edgedale Plains.

If convicted of evading a police roadblock, he could face a fine of up to S$10,000, imprisonment of up to seven years, or both.

Dangerous driving carries a penalty of up to 12 months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to S$5,000, or both, along with mandatory disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles.
