WhatsappFood delivery platform Deliveroo will cease operations in Singapore after Mar. 4, following its acquisition by competitor DoorDash.

The announcement was made on Deliveroo's website on Feb. 25, where it announced that it will "begin an orderly wind-down process".

"This is a difficult decision and follows a review of country-specific conditions, and our focus on investing where we see the clearest path to sustainable scale and long-term leadership," the announcement read.

The platform will remain live until Mar. 4.

Users have been advised to use any credit or gift cards by 3pm on that day.

Acquisition by DoorDash

Previously, Singapore Business Review announced that DoorDash had completed its acquisition of Deliveroo and formally entered the Singapore market.

In a message to users then, DoorDash CEO Tony Xu had said that the Deliveroo app and services would continue operating, calling this the beginning of a new chapter.

Miki Kuusi, head of DoorDash International, has also been appointed CEO of Deliveroo and CEO of fellow food delivery platform Wolt.

In response to the impending closure, Grab said via a spokesperson:

Delivery-partners and F&B businesses are at the heart of Singapore’s vibrant food scene, and protecting their livelihoods is incredibly important to us. We understand that this situation is unsettling, especially as many in the community operate in a challenging environment.

We remain deeply committed to supporting local businesses and delivery-partners for the long term, focusing on initiatives that help them reach more customers and grow sustainably. Our priority now is to provide the support needed by those impacted. For those choosing Grab, we want to ensure they get set up quickly and easily so that they can resume their deliveries as soon as possible.

To ensure a seamless start, we are fast-tracking onboarding for both delivery-partners and merchants. For merchants, we are also waiving activation and device fees and providing one-on-one assistance to help them get ready to receive orders without delay. At the same time, we are working closely with the National Delivery Champions Association (NDCA) to coordinate further support specifically for impacted delivery-partners.

For our consumers, we remain focused on ensuring a reliable service, a strong selection of merchants, and great value across both delivery and dine-out, such as GrabUnlimited and Dine Out Deals for more savings.
