Man arrested at River Valley High School was reportedly infatuated with teacher, refused to leave after getting rejected

The 33-year-old man who was arrested at River Valley High School on Jan. 23 was reportedly infatuated with a teacher and refused to leave the premises after getting rejected.

The incident first came to public attention when photos of the arrest were circulated online on Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu.

In the photos, a man in a white shirt could be seen restrained on the ground by police officers.

He was later seen being led away into a police vehicle.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the man had entered the school to look for a female teacher whom he was fixated on.

After being rejected, he allegedly refused to leave, leading to a confrontation with staff members and prompting the police to be called.

Man was "uncooperative"

In response to Mothership's queries, the police confirmed it had been alerted to the incident at around 4:20pm that Friday.

When officers arrived at the scene, the man refused to provide his particulars when requested and was "uncooperative".

He shouted at officers while challenging them continuously, refusing to comply with instructions despite multiple warnings. The man was subsequently arrested for disorderly behaviour. Investigations are ongoing.

The police also clarified that no weapons were used and no injuries were reported.

Children's safety remains school's priority

River Valley High School principal Choy Wai Yin said in a statement to parents via the app Parents Gateway on Friday night that the incident involved a visitor at the general office, which required police assistance, Shin Min reported.

She said that the school took action and worked with the police to handle the situation, ensuring all staff members and students are safe.

Choy also added that the children’s safety and wellbeing remained the school's priority.
