Chinese man wins S$1.59 million Super Lotto prize, gives entire sum to wife to manage
Happy wife, happy life. Even if you hit the jackpot.
After buying Super Lotto tickets consistently since 2013, a typical office worker in Guangzhou, China, struck it rich on Jan. 14.
The man, surnamed Wang, won 8.36 million yuan (S$1.59 million) after striking the lottery.
He had bought the prize at a sports lottery outlet on Hecheng Street in Gaoming District, Foshan.
Despite the life-changing windfall, Wang reportedly remained remarkably composed.
According to Southern Network, after realising he had won, he calmed himself and returned to finish his work shift.
Called wife with good news
On the night of the draw, Wang was having dinner during a shift change when he decided to check the winning numbers.
Upon discovering his win, he immediately called his wife to share the news.
Sceptical at first, his wife only believed him after he rushed home and handed her the winning ticket in person.
After the initial excitement subsided, Wang remembered his responsibility to work the night shift and made an effort to steady himself before heading back to work.
His wife, however, was so thrilled that she could not sleep the entire night.
Entrusting winnings to wife
The following morning, Wang and his wife drove to Foshan to claim the prize.
Asked how he selected the winning numbers, Wang said with a smile that he had randomly combined numbers based on his family members’ birthdates.
“Being rational when buying lottery tickets is very important,” he said, adding that he has maintained such a mindset while purchasing Super Lotto tickets for every draw since 2013.
As for his plans for the winnings, Wang said without hesitation that he would entrust the entire sum to his wife to manage, emphasising that family harmony and happiness matter far more to him than money.
