Chomp Chomp Food Centre reopens on Jan. 27 with upgraded facilities & 6 large fans
Fav supper spot is back.
The popular Chomp Chomp Food Centre in Serangoon Gardens has reopened on Jan. 27 following a three-month renovation.
The hawker centre was previously closed from Oct. 27, 2025 to Jan. 26, 2026 for repairs and redecoration as part of NEA’s ongoing maintenance and upgrading programme for hawker centres across Singapore.
Several facilities upgraded
First opened in 1972, Chomp Chomp Food Centre is closely associated with Singapore’s supper culture and is known for its wide range of offerings, including satay, barbecued chicken wings and sugarcane juice.
According to Lianhe Zaobao, when one of its reporters visited the hawker centre on Jan. 26, renovation works had all been completed, with a few stall owners and staff carrying out final preparations ahead of reopening.
In an interview, 64-year-old beverage stall owner Chen Bairong (transliteration), who is also the hawker centre's represenative, told Zaobao that previously, some dining areas lacked overhead shelter, allowing rainwater to seep in and rendering seats unusable.
Fortunately, canopies have been installed during the renovation to address the issue.

Several facilities were also upgraded.
These include the repaving of floors with non-slip tiles, the installation of handrails along steps and ramps at the entrance to improve accessibility for the elderly, as well as the addition of six large fans to improve ventilation.
Thresholds have also been installed at each stall to prevent sewage from overflowing during cleaning. This was a problem that had previously affected diners and neighbouring stalls.
Moreover, with renovations to the toilets and the redesigning of the sinks, additional space has been freed up to accommodate three more tables, increasing seating capacity in the hawker centre by about 10 diners.

Most hawkers not planning to increases prices for now
According to Zaobao, the stall owners interviewed were all looking forward to the hawker centre's reopening and hoped the improved environment would draw more customers.
Several also noted that most of their patrons are regular customers, and said food prices would remain unchanged despite the temporary closure.
The second-generation owner of Ah Hock Fried Hokkien Noodles noted that stallholders did not have to pay rent during the renovation period, adding that his stall's prices would only be adjusted if ingredient costs rise in future.
He also hoped the improved ventilation and newly covered areas would help to boost business.
Many other stall owners shared similar views and said they do not plan to raise prices.
