The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will be resetting its Expected Time of Arrival (ETA) system, which provides bus wait time estimates, from 8pm on Jan. 21.

This follows technical issues that led to inaccurate waiting time estimates, the organisation said in a statement on Wednesday.

The problems, which were first detected on Jan. 10, caused some commuter touchpoints to display unusually long or incorrect bus arrival times.

Earlier on Wednesday, checks by Mothership on the MyTransport.SG app showed that wait time estimates at a bus stop were as long as 44 minutes.

Intermitten transmission issue

In the statement, LTA revealed that preliminary investigations found that there is an intermittent transmission issue with the on-board systems for some buses, which resulted in missing bus arrival predictions for a small proportion of bus services.

In order to resolve the issue, the ETA system will be reset from 8pm.

During the reset, bus arrival time predictions will not be available at touchpoints and on apps.

However, all bus services will continue to operate at their usual frequencies, and commuters can refer to the websites of SimplyGo and the Public Transport Operators (PTOs) for information on the planned bus service intervals.

LTA also affirmed that it will provide commuters with an update once the ETA system is back up.

"We apologise for the inconvenience caused. Our engineers and ETA system contractors are working with the bus operators to rectify the issue urgently," LTA said.
