The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is investigating technical issues affecting bus wait time estimates, it said in a news release and Facebook post on Jan. 21.

The issue has resulted in inaccurate and long wait times being displayed at commuter touchpoints.

LTA said that bus operations are not affected and all services continue to operate at their usual frequencies.

Checks by Mothership on the MyTransport.SG app showed that wait time estimates at a bus stop are as long as 44 minutes.

The issue with the Expected Time of Arrival (ETA) system, which provides bus wait time estimates, was first detected on Jan. 10, 2026, and more inaccuracies were subsequently detected over the course of the week, LTA shared.

"Preliminary investigations indicate a technical issue in the on-board systems for some buses which are affecting the transmission of bus arrival timing estimates," LTA explained.

The ETA system generates estimates of when buses will arrive at each stop based on information relayed by equipment onboard buses.

These estimates are disseminated via commuter touchpoints such as electronic passenger information displays at bus stops and interchanges, the MyTransport.SG application as well as other third-party applications through LTA DataMall.

"Our engineers and ETA system contractors are working with the bus operators to rectify the issue as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience caused," LTA said.
