A mother-daughter trip in China ended in tragedy when the girl collapsed and allegedly died from cardiogenic shock after reportedly experiencing severe distress when she could not find her mother.

The girl's mother parted ways with the girl after a day together on Jan. 11, 2026. Sin Chew Daily reported.

The girl's parents are divorced, and the girl usually lives with her father.

Afraid her daughter would be reluctant to leave after the trip, her mother quickly made her way back home after sending her daughter off.

Excessive emotional distress

Unbeknownst to her, the girl did not stay at home, but ran after her mother, HK01 reported, adding that the girl cried while looking for her mother on the streets.

The excessive emotional distress then caused the girl to faint on the streets, after which she was pronounced dead despite emergency treatment.

In addition, a doctor said the girl was experiencing severe emotional fluctuations before she fainted.

No prior medical history

According to finance.sina.com, these severe emotional fluctuations then caused the girl to die from cardiogenic shock, which Mayo Clinic defines as a life-threatening condition where the heart suddenly cannot pump enough blood to meet the body's needs.

It is said to be deadly if not treated immediately.

The girl's aunt said in an interview that prior to her death, the girl had no relevant medical history.

She added that the tragedy would not have happened if the girl's mother had looked back instead of running so resolutely.

The mother, however, disputed this, saying she had texted her ex-husband and his family to make sure the daughter was ok. They had allegedly said she was ok.
