A single mother in Malaysia was allegedly held hostage for three hours and raped by a man she knew.

She reported the incident to the police, and the man was charged with sexually assaulting her, which he pleaded not guilty to.

Eventually, the man's charges were reduced, and he was fined RM10,000 (S$3,170).

The woman went on to publicly question the court's ruling, claiming that the outcome has left her with "an overwhelming sense of betrayal and disappointment in the justice system."

According to The Malay Mail, she wrote a letter to the Attorney-General, demanding an explanation for the reduced charge.

The incident

On Nov. 25, 2025, the victim, Loh Wai Mun, posted on Facebook about the incident.

Loh shared that the incident took place on Jun. 9, 2025, and she was attacked by a man she knew who lived in her neighbourhood in Bandar Utama.

She explained that she got to know the man while walking their dogs.

She added that the man, who at times brings her son out for ice cream or over to his place to play computer games with his sons.

Loh clarified that she had never been in any relationship with the man, and he eventually moved out of the neighbourhood in 2023.

Two weeks before the incident, Loh and the neighbours spotted the man allegedly circling the neighbourhood on his motorcycle.

On Jun. 9, the man approached Loh at her home, claiming to be involved in a motorcycle accident, and requested a medical kit urgently. Loh said she allowed him into her house, but her dog reacted aggressively, so the man used the medical kit in the guest toilet and then left.

Later that evening, the man returned at around 8:30 pm with egg tarts to thank her for her help.

He asked her if she could do him a favour by driving to his office, explaining that his son had taken his car and his motorcycle was at the mechanics.

Once they reached his office, she waited in the car while the man brought down a printer and placed it in the back seat.

He then asked her to go up to the office with him and hold the door for him while he retrieved more items, and she complied.

When they reached the office, the man told her to come in and hold the glass door open. As she reached the door, the man moved behind her to grab her and held a knife to her face.

Loh said that the man asked her to do everything he said, or else he would hurt her and her son.

Loh claimed the man tied her hands with a cable tie, blindfolded her, and allegedly drugged her with what she later determined was amphetamine.

"The moments that followed were of fear and disbelief. To my horror, I was held hostage for 3 hours and repeatedly rape."

Following the incident, Loh said she immediately reported to the police on Jun. 10 at 3am.

Charges

Loh shared that the man was formally charged on Jun. 26, 2025, for sexual offence on the allegation of rape; and he pleaded not guilty.

Loh shared that she patiently waited for the trial to begin, but on Nov. 14, 2025, she discovered that her case had been closed and that the man had been charged with a reduced offence of using criminal force with intent to outrage the modesty of a person.

The man then pleaded guilty to the lesser charge and was fined RM10,000 (S$3,170).

Explanation

Loh's case caught the eye of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) advisor, who called on the Malaysian government to explain why the man's charge was reduced without her knowledge.

Lim Guan Eng said in a statement on Jan. 14 that Loh had written to the Attorney-General, arguing that the reduced charge did not reflect the harm and trauma she went through, the Malay Mail reported.

Lim said that the "unique circumstance" of the case requires an explanation.

On Jan. 16, the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) explained that issues with the evidence were why the rape charge was reduced.

According to Malaysiakini, the AGC found that there were "several material inconsistencies in the victim's testimony, which could affect the victim's reliability and credibility, as well as the case as a whole".

The AGC review also noted that while a medical report was obtained, the findings in the support could not "confirm the occurrence of rape, as alleged".

In a Facebook post on Nov. 25, 2025, Loh claimed she had challenges with the police, stating that they did not follow up with her "as they should have".

She also claimed that she was not informed of the outcome of her medical examination or the forensic evidence from the clothes the police took from her as evidence.

In a previous report by Malaysiakini, Loh claimed that the police mishandled her case, as a police officer had allegedly told her to go home and shower before meeting an investigating officer.
