S'porean man, 32, gave up bank job with S$12,000 monthly salary to marry Thai nurse, 29
He had also offered over S$250,000 in dowry.
A Singaporean man has captured headlines in Thailand after giving up his job with a lucrative S$12,000 monthly salary to relocate and marry his Thai girlfriend.
The couple exchanged vows on Nov. 29 in Kalasin province, with wedding gifts of cash and gold worth in excess of S$250,000, according to Kalasin News.
Their meeting
The bride, a 29-year-old nurse from Kalasin known as “Eve” Ratchadaporn, met her now-husband, a 32-year-old Singaporean known only as “Jordan,” at a café in the Bang Na district in Bangkok.
Their connection was instantaneous: they exchanged contact numbers, began texting on the Line app and embarked on a long-distance relationship.
They dated for approximately a year before deciding to marry.
Gave up his job
Faced with the choice between a stable, high-paying banking job in Singapore and a future with his Thai partner, Jordan opted for love.
He resigned and moved to Thailand, where he accepted a position at a local company with a salary that is roughly half of his previous one.

On Nov. 29, the couple celebrated their nuptials at a pool villa in Kalasin, dressed in traditional Thai wedding attire.
As part of the ceremony, they presented 100,000 baht (S$4,067) in cash and about S$13,000 worth of gold to the bride’s mother.
The pair also intend to hold a second wedding ceremony in Singapore, where the dowry will include one million baht in cash (S$40,664) plus over S$200,000 in gold to the bride’s parents.
In a YouTube video interview by Kalasin News, Jordan showed off his language prowess by telling his newly-wedded wife "I love you" in 5 languages: English, Chinese, Laotian, Thai and, cheekily, in Singlish as well — I love you lah.
“Goosebumps”
Jordan said he felt “goosebumps” during the ceremony, admitting that until that moment, he had only ever seen such traditional weddings in films.
He said that they had both wanted to build a life for themselves together in Thailand, and credited his wife for encouraging him and helping him adapt to life in a different country.
