'Maybe Allah hasn't called me yet': M'sian politician uses S$37,700 saved for Haj to fund surgery for child in need
The child will go to China for surgery.
UMNO youth chief Muhamad Akmal Saleh said on Facebook that he had used the money he saved for a Haj pilgrimage with his wife to help fund surgery for a child in need.
The child, called Medina, needed RM180,000 for her liver transplant surgery in China.
Despite fundraising efforts, only RM62,000 had been raised.
In his Facebook video, Akmal gave RM120,000 to the family to make up for the shortfall.
He said that although Medina does not reside in his constituency, he felt a moral obligation to help.
Akmal said he had been saving the money to go on the Haj Pilgrimage with his wife next year, RM60,000 each for a package.
Akmal said that between going for Haj or saving a life, the latter was more important.
Describing his feelings about giving up the chance to go on the pilgrimage next year, Akmal said: "Maybe Allah hasn't called me yet."
