Telegram WhatsappSingaporean tech company Creative Technology will be moving out of its headquarters in Jurong and moving to a smaller space in Alexandra Technopark as it navigates its next stage.

The company, known for its pioneering work in digital audio products, including computer sound and MP3 players, is searching for a new CEO after the incumbent Tan Jok Tin announced that he would step down in 2026, but did not say who would replace him.

Smaller premises

The Straits Times reported that Creative would leave its headquarters in International Business Park in Jurong.

The company would instead take up a smaller premises in Alexandra Technopark from March 2026 onwards.

The building in which it currently resides was previously owned by Creative, who sold it for S$250 million in 2008.

It signed a sale and leaseback agreement, allowing it to retain its headquarters for five years, with options for additional periods of three and two years thereafter.

Creative first moved into the building in 1999, when it was the darling of Singaporean industry.

However, in subsequent years, it has scaled back its occupation of the building, now only occupying the third and eighth floors.

Opened by Goh Chok Tong

The official opening of its headquarters in 1999 was presided over by then-Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong, who lauded Creative Technology as the first Singapore Company to be listed on New York’s NASDAQ index.

Back then, it had over US$1.2 billion in revenue, equivalent to about US$2.34 billion (S$3 billion) in 2025 and a workforce of over 4,500.

ST reports that Creative currently employs about 280 people globally.

When the company moves to Alexandra Technopark, it will only be renting three office units, about 2,878 square meters.

Creative told ST that it had decided against renewal as its current lease reached its conclusion, choosing to relocate to a “more modern, dynamic workspace”, to “better suit our current operational needs”.

New CEO?

ST further reported that Creative was undergoing a period of transition, as the company’s interim CEO and executive chairman, the 73-year-old Tan Jok Kim, announced in November that he would step down on Jan. 15, 2026, without naming a successor.

Creative had said in July 2025 that it was searching for a new CEO.

Tan is the company’s third CEO since the death of Creative’s founder, Sim Wong Hoo.

Sim was a prominent figure in Singapore's then-nascent technology industry and was famously outspoken about Singapore’s workplace culture, saying that the country suffered from what he termed “NUTS”, or No U-Turn Syndrome, a critique that Singaporeans would refrain from taking action unless rules explicitly allowed them to.
