S'porean actor Collin Chee leaks late Hong Kong actor Benz Hui's funeral details, apologises
The late actor passed away on Oct. 28 at the age of 76.
Singaporean actor Collin Chee has apologised for revealing funeral details of the late Hong Kong actor Benz Hui to the media.
Hui, affectionately known as Foon Hei Gor (Brother Foon Hei), died on Oct. 28 from multiple organ failure caused by cancer.
He was 76.
Shin Min Daily News reported that Chee apologised when contacted on Dec. 7.
Instagram post
This comes after the late actor's daughter Charmaine Hui recently paid tribute to her father in an Instagram post.
"I thank our family, dear friends and TVB for assisting us in a solemn farewell for my dad," she wrote.
She said she was thankful for most guests who respected the private closed door ceremony with no recording, no filming, and no sharing of any kind.
"It showed genuine love and respect you had for us," she wrote.
Hui's funeral was held in Hong Kong in November.
Charmaine added: "Unfortunately, certain ceremony details were leaked to press outside of Hong Kong and with immense disappointment to this individual from Singapore, to his ignorance and invasion of privacy."
"Sometimes, silence speaks far louder than exposure."
Culprit
Though Charmaine did not name the person responsible, Hong Kong media outlet HK01 suggested that it was Chee.
Chee, 58, had told Lianhe Zaobao and Shin Min that he flew to Hong Kong on Nov. 18 to attend Hui's funeral.
Revealed funeral details
During the Zaobao interview, Chee shared details about the funeral, including funeral customs in Hong Kong being different from those in Singapore.
Chee also said Hui's stepson also gave a eulogy that moved him to tears and revealed parts of it.
Apologised to family
Following this, Chee, who is currently in Brunei, apologised to Hui's family after being contacted by Shin Min on Dec. 7.
He explained that his intention was to share what his relationship with the late Hui was like, as well as to convey what a good person Hui was.
"I never imagined that his would hurt his family, and I am very sorry for that," he said.
Chee noted that he fully respected the funeral rules which did not allow photos, videos and social media posts.
“If there was anything inappropriate, it was truly unintentional," he said.
"I apologise again to Foon Hei Gor’s family for my slip of the tongue.”
Chee said he has since tried to call and text Hui's family to apologise.
However, they have not responded to his apologies, Chee added.
