HK actress Charmaine Sheh, 50, writes will leaving S$30 million in assets to family
The recent passing of her godfather, fellow actor Benz Hui, made her reflect on life, death, and illness.
One of Hong Kong's most popular actresses, Charmaine Sheh, 50, recently shared that she has prepared a will after dealing with death and illness among loved ones.
She has assets worth close to HK$200 million (about S$33 million) and plans to leave most of it to her mother and two brothers, SET News reported.
Sheh is not married and has no children.
In an interview with local media on Dec. 4, she shared that she had made a will a while ago.
She started reflecting more deeply on life and death after her godfather, fellow Hong Kong actor Benz Hui, passed away from multiple organ failure caused by cancer on Oct. 28.
Her mother is also believed to be dealing with cancer.
Sheh's father passed away when she was just five, due to a road accident, and her mother has had serious health issues several times in the past.
In September, Sheh told local media that her mother had been feeling unwell for over a year, but had become stable and was receiving treatment.
Re-examining life and death
Over her 28 years in the entertainment industry, Sheh has picked up multiple awards for acting and has been dubbed the "queen of TVB" (Television Broadcasts Limited, Hong Kong's largest TV broadcaster).
During the Dec. 4 interview, Sheh shared that Hui's passing hit her hard and prompted her to re-examine her life plans, SET News reported.
She said her thirties were great, when many joyful things were happening around her, such as people dating, getting married, and having children.
"But when I reached another stage, I went through a lot of separations and deaths. I worked hard to learn how to adjust and return to normal life," she said, as quoted by Sing Tao Headline.
"I have come to terms with it now — ageing, illness, and death are inevitable. As humans, we must keep moving forward. Since life is so short, we should do more to help others and make ourselves happy, and cherish the people around us, because you never know when they might suddenly be gone."
In recent years, she has reduced her workload by half to spend more time with her family.
Additionally, she shared that she had made a will to leave her money to her loved ones.
"I worked so hard to earn money. If something happened to me one day, I do not want my savings to be wasted — I hope the money can be distributed according to my wishes."
She also wanted to relieve the burden on her family after she leaves, according to the Hong Kong Economic Times.
She added that her longing for children has faded as she grew older, and now she has no regrets about not having any.
