A 30-year-old woman from the United States, who apparently married a former Malaysia king and Kelantan Sultan, has taken to social media to share about their relationship after he supposedly stopped contacting her.

In several posts shared on her Instagram account between Nov. 1 and 5, Brittany Porter recounted her relationship with Sultan Muhammad V, 56, which ultimately led to their marriage in April 2024.

According to Porter, they met through mutual friends after a night out in New York in January 2024 and she found him charming and his British accent "cute".

They continued to text and eventually got together.

However, after the couple got married, he apparently "disappeared" following her miscarriage in July 2024.

Porter claimed that she was unaware she had undergone a religious marriage until he allegedly cut her off.

A year after the whirlwind relationship, she has taken to social media to share it with the world.

Muhammad V, previously reigned as Malaysia's king from 2016 until his abdication in 2019, when he resumed duties as the ruler of Kelantan.

Got married unknowingly during a "religious marriage"

In a post on Nov. 1, Porter claimed that the Sultan and her had a "religious marriage".

The ceremony occurred during their "first trip together" in Oman in April 2024, three months after they first met.

Porter said she was unclear at first about what the ceremony featuring an imam constituted, but it involved her conversion.

Another post on Nov. 2 showed the pair at a private nikah (solemnisation) ceremony with an imam.

She also shared text messages, purportedly from the Sultan, expressing his excitement for their nikah.

Only after she got cut off a year later did she realise the significance of the nikah.

She said she thought the event in Oman was their engagement and that the big wedding ceremony, which they planned for, was supposed to take place in January 2025.

Given that the nikah in Oman occurred, Porter wrote: "In Western culture, the ceremony itself is considered the official wedding, so I didn't realise how different the terminology and process would be under Islamic law. But the truth is - I was, and still am, his wife in the eyes of Allah."

She said she is "trying to understand what this means legally and religiously" as she is not allowed to "simply move on" without a proper talaq or fasakh under Islamic law.

"I want to do things the right way - with respect, clarity, and faith," Porter added.

She also shared an image of a document detailing fees of their wedding, which was purportedly signed by Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra — the Sultan's name in full — on May 27, 2024.

The paper did not indicate the exact date of their wedding, but on it, Porter was identified as Brittany Petra, having taken the Sultan's last name.

According to Porter, he had "promised" her "a family, a family, forever".

She added that they had planned official ceremonies in Malaysia and California, U.S.

Only talking about this now as she wasn't "strong enough"

Porter also shared pictures of the couple together in a post on Nov. 2.

She wrote:

"I left my life behind because I believed him. He told me how to dress, how to act, what to say. I was never allowed to just be me."

She added that she decided to only "talk about this now" as she was not "strong enough to face it" initially.

"But silence started feeling heavier than the truth and I'm finally in a place where I can speak from strength, not pain," Porter wrote.

First wife reportedly followed her on Instagram

In a Nov. 3 post, Porter shared that after she and the Sultan got married, his first wife, Nur Diana Petra Abdullah, followed Porter on Instagram.

Porter added that when asked about Diana, the Sultan apparently said the first wife was "just being mean" and that she had only wanted a settlement from him.

Porter added that she had given up her career, home, and independence before they got married.

"I believed what I was told because when you love someone, you give them the benefit of the doubt," she wrote.

Sultan reportedly disappeared after her miscarriage

When Porter later suffered a miscarriage in July 2024, the Sultan allegedly stopped staying in touch with her.

"He disappeared after my miscarriage. No explanation. No divorce. Just silence," she said in her Nov. 2 post.

Allegedly admitted to fathering child with previous wife

In a subsequent post on Nov. 5, Porter noted that the Sultan had "publicly" denied his own child, but said that he acknowledged it in private messages with her.

The Sultan had previously denied in 2019 that he had fathered Leon Ismail, the son of his Russian ex-wife, Rihana Oksana Veovodina.

Porter wrote:

"Everything was kept hidden so there'd never have to be accountability. When commitments to children or spouses are hidden, it's so they can be abandoned without consequence. That isn't just personal failure - it's a pattern of moral cowardice. Truth matters. Accountability matters."
