Man, 56, dies after fight with 3 other men at Blk 51 Chin Swee Road

A 56-year-old man died in hospital after a fight with three other men at Block 51 Chin Swee Road on Nov. 8.

The police said they were alerted to the incident at about 3:10am, reported The Straits Times (ST).

The man was found lying injured outside his unit when they arrived.

The man was unconscious when he was taken to the hospital.

Three men, aged between 36 and 59, were arrested for their suspected involvement in the case.

Preliminary investigations showed the four people were involved in a dispute prior to the fight.

The case has been classified as a murder, and police investigations are ongoing.

The block has 328 units, all of which are one-room flats, ST added.

Blood on 17th floor

A reporter from Lianhe Zaobao arrived at the scene around noon and observed that several floors of the HDB block, including the 4th floor and the 15th to 19th floors, had been cordoned off.

There was a large pool of blood on the 17th floor, along with bloodstains on the stairs and handrails.

A 68-year-old retiree, surnamed Cai, who lives on the 15th floor, told reporters that he heard a loud banging sound followed by an argument at around 2am.

Cai said he had been watching television at the time when he saw the suspect and the victim run past his door one after the other, shouting as they did so.

Two men to be charged with murder

In an updated press release, the police said two men, aged 58 and 59, who are acquainted with each other, have been arrested and will be charged in court on Nov. 9 with murder with common intention.

Preliminary investigations revealed that four men were involved in a fight that arose from a dispute.

During the fight, one of the men allegedly stabbed the 56-year- old man.

Two knives were recovered and seized by the police.

The offence of murder carries the death penalty.

The 59-year-old man was also arrested for drug-related offences, which will be referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau, police said.

Another 36-year-old man, who is the deceased’s friend and had allegedly been involved in the fight, has been arrested for affray and is assisting with investigations.
