Mediacorp actress and television host Gini Chang alleged that she was touched on her thighs inappropriately by a stranger who sat next to her on a public bus in Singapore.

And when she put her bag onto her lap to deter him, he took his things and got off the bus without saying a word, Chang said in a video posted to her Instagram on Nov. 7.

Touched her twice, didn't say sorry

Chang, 31, explained she made the video right after experiencing the incident on a public bus, adding that the video is "no joking matter", and she is very angry.

According to Chang's recount, the man was originally sitting opposite from her, but he moved to sit next to her when he saw the seat was empty.

"Then he put his hands by the side of his body and grabbed the edge of the seat. I could feel his arms touching my thighs," said Chang in Mandarin.

She said she did not confront the man as she initially thought it could have been an accident, or that perhaps she sat too close to the other seat.

But when he repeated the action, Chang said she felt something was amiss, so she took her bag and placed it onto her lap.

The man then moved his hands away and alighted from the bus soon after, Chang said.

Chang reasoned that if the touch had been accidental, a normal person would have pulled their hands back and apologised.

"But his hands stayed there and he repeated the action. And he didn't say a single word of apology," she said.

Reminds ladies to protect yourself

Chang said that this is not the first time she has encountered such incidents, which is why she has decided to share her story.

She believed that the man was trying to "test" if she was "an easy target" or if she would resist.

Addressing female viewers, Chang said,

"If you feel uneasy about something in the moment, you must trust your own intuition.

Regardless of the location or your choice of clothing, it's not your fault.

When you encounter such acts, put a stop to it immediately.

Please take care of yourself whenever you are outside."

Macau-born Chang made her local debut in 2019 television series "All Around You" and more recently starred in 2025's "Emerald Hill - The Little Nyonya Story".

She has also been a regular host of the #JustSwipeLah lifestyle series and lifestyle show Silver Carnival.
