A 36-year-old preschool teacher has been charged with ill-treating three babies under her care, including allegedly force-feeding a child until she vomited and stuffing a bib into another baby’s mouth, according to charge sheets seen by Mothership.

The Singaporean woman, whose identity is protected by a gag order, was handed three charges under the Children and Young Persons Act (CYPA) on Thursday (Nov. 20), CNA reported.

The gag order also covers the identities of the victims and the location of the incidents, as the alleged offences occurred in a preschool setting.

Alleged offences

The woman allegedly ill-treated a 12-month-old girl by force-feeding the child until she vomited, and by hitting the child on the face and back on Sep. 23, 2024.

About two days later on Sep. 25, 2024, she is accused of hitting the right hand of a 10-month-old child, along with lifting and dropping the bumper chair the child was sitting in from knee height.

On the same day, she also allegedly ill-treated an 8-month-old child by stuffing a bib into the child’s mouth and placing a blanket over the child’s face.

Charges

All of the woman's charges fall under the CYPA.

Under Section 6 of the CYPA, a person who has custody or care of a child and ill-treats them may face, upon conviction, up to eight years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to S$8,000, or both.

The woman has not indicated how she intends to plead.

The charge sheets show she was offered S$15,000 bail, and the next mention is scheduled for Dec. 18, 2025.
