S'porean man, 35, allegedly trafficked 13 K-pods, caught after 'behaving suspiciously' in Geylang
He was caught in Geylang during an enforcement operation on Nov. 18.
A 35-year-old Singaporean man was charged in court on Nov. 20 after he allegedly trafficked 13 e-vaporiser pods containing etomidate, also known as Kpods.
In a press release on Nov. 20, the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) said that Wee Rong Hong Marcus was nabbed on Nov. 18 following an enforcement operation in Geylang.
17 etomidate pods seized
The incident took place at Lorong 13 Geylang at 8:09pm, according to charge sheets seen by Mothership.
Officers in the area had noticed Wee "vaping and behaving suspiciously".
They inspected him and found 17 e-vaporisers and pods, which were subsequently seized.
He had allegedly intended to sell 13 of the pods.
Laboratory tests later confirmed that the pods contained etomidate.
Investigations are ongoing.
The case has been adjourned to Dec. 18.
Penalties
HSA said that it takes a serious view of offences involving etomidate and e-vaporisers, noting that stricter penalties are now in place for trafficking such products.
Those found guilty of importing etomidate vapes may face up to 20 years' jail, and up to 15 strokes of the cane.
Those found guilty of selling and distributing such products may face up to 10 years' jail, and up to five strokes of the cane.
