Johor Bahru City Square to be revamped & expanded with hotel by end-2027

Johor Bahru City Square (JBCS) is set to undergo a revamp and expansion until the fourth quarter of 2027.

In a press release on Nov. 3, the mall's management confirmed that the revamp will include new offerings, such as hotel apartments and a health and wellness hub.

Will remain "fully operational"

Despite ongoing works, the mall will remain open throughout the transformation.

New additions

Once completed, JBCS will expand its retail space from 547,076 to 568,927 sq ft and house over 300 retailers across themed floors dedicated to fashion, wellness, lifestyle, and technology.

The redevelopment will also introduce several new features, including a 15,000 sq ft Kids Adventure Park, a 41,300 sq ft Health & Wellness Hub, flexible event spaces, and integrated hotel apartments above the mall — the latter slated for completion in the second quarter of 2028.

Shoppers can also look forward to a revamped food precinct combining international cuisines with local favourites.

The mall's revamp coincides with the expected opening of the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) link at the end of 2026, which will connect both cities in just six minutes and carry up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction.

According to Allgreen Group managing director Tho Leong Chye, the redevelopment is designed to secure the mall's position as a "future-ready destination" for both Malaysians and cross-border visitors:

"JBCS has long been a beloved mall for both local shoppers and cross-border travellers. By combining refreshed spaces with a curated mix of new brands and experiences, we are investing in JBCS' future to ensure it continues to thrive as the vibrant heart of retail, leisure, and lifestyle for generations to come."
