Anjani Sinha has arrived in Singapore to begin his tenure as the U.S. Ambassador to Singapore.

The U.S. Embassy in Singapore said in a Nov. 6 press release that Sinha's appointment reflects the U.S.' commitment to working with Singapore on shared goals of prosperity and security.

Deeply honoured

Sinha said upon his arrival that he is "deeply honoured" to represent the U.S. in Singapore.

He added that Singapore is a friend of the U.S., that is a leading hub for American business and a pillar of regional stability.

"I look forward to working with the government and people of Singapore to deepen our close collaboration," said Sinha.

He added: "President Trump has asked me to increase our ambitions for cooperation with Singapore, based on mutual respect and shared priorities."

In particular, Sinha said he is eager to work with Singapore in areas including technology, energy, and security.

The release noted that for nearly 60 years, the partnership between the U.S. and Singapore has brought tangible benefits to the people of both countries.

Sworn in

This comes after Sinha was sworn in as the U.S. Ambassador to Singapore on Oct. 23.

The swearing-in ceremony took place in the U.S. at the Department of State.

Sinha, who is an orthopaedic and sports medicine surgeon, was confirmed in the U.S. Senate with a 51-47 vote on Oct. 7.
