A 37-year-old Malaysian motorcyclist was caught attempting to smuggle a bottle containing suspected “Kratom” liquid into Singapore on Oct. 14, 2025.

Kratom contains "Mitragynine" and "7-Hydroxymitragynine", which are both Class A controlled drugs under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

In a Facebook post, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said their officers at Tuas Checkpoint directed the rider for further checks and asked if he had anything to declare.

The man declared negative, and the officers proceeded to check his belonging and motorcycle.

They then uncovered a bottle containing suspected “Kratom” liquid in the man's bag.

The case was referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.

Those convicted of importing Class A controlled drugs into Singapore face a minimum sentence of five years’ imprisonment and five strokes of the cane.

"ICA is committed to keeping Singapore’s borders safe and secure while facilitating trade and travel," ICA said.
