Man, 52, threatened to kill wife & locked father-in-law with him in Tampines flat
He was arrested for violating a personal protection order.
A 52-year-old man in Singapore allegedly threatened to kill his wife before locking himself in the house on Oct. 28.
He was later arrested by the police for breaching a Personal Protection Order (PPO).
The man's wife subsequently told Shin Min Daily News that he had made threatening remarks after an argument, which frightened her and prompted her to seek help from neighbours.
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed with Mothership that they received a call for assistance at Block 845 Tampines Street 83 at about 3:20pm that day.
Became irritable 5 years ago
According to the wife, her husband became "irritable and frequently lost control for no apparent reason" about five years ago.
They have been married for 17 years and have two children, a 16-year-old son and a four-year-old daughter.
On that day, her husband had allegedly lost control of his emotions again and threw her luggage containing clothes and personal belongings downstairs.
"He kept provoking me to fight, and even threatened to kill me. I was really scared," she told a Shin Min reporter.
As she was afraid to remain at home, she took her daughter to her neighbour's house for help, and the neighbour helped to call the police.
The husband then allegedly locked himself in, together with the domestic helper and his father-in-law, who is said to have limited mobility.
Arrested
Officers from the Special Operations Command, Crisis Negotiation Unit and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to the incident, SPF said.
This was after it was assessed that the man might pose a danger to himself and the family member.
SCDF said they deployed two safety air packs.
Rescuers from Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) were on standby as a precautionary measure.
At about 6pm, police officers managed to gain entry into the unit after the man relented and opened the door, SPF said.
The man was subsequently arrested for breach of PPO.
Police investigations are ongoing.
