Shaw Theatres Lido in Orchard will give out free movie tickets to celebrate its "soft opening" after its renovation works.

From Oct. 6 to 8, the cinema operator will give out 200 pairs of free movie tickets per day on a first-come-first-serve basis.

The tickets will be valid for same-day regular 2D movies, which exclude premium films, such as 3D and IMAX ones.

Each customer may redeem only one pair of free tickets.

The queue will start at 9:30am at Shaw Theatres Lido's box office on level five in Shaw House.

Closed for renovations

The cinema operator announced on Aug. 25 that it would temporarily close for renovations from Sep. 1, and re-open in phases.

The first phase of its reopening will begin on Oct. 6, it said in its Facebook post.

Previously, The Straits Times reported that Shaw Lido would resume screenings at six regular halls and the IMAX hall on that date.

But renovation works will only wrap up closer to the end of the year.

As part of the upgrading works, the six halls would be equipped with new laser projectors and new screens, said a spokesperson from Shaw.

The flagship IMAX screen would also be replaced.

In a Sep. 26 social media teaser, it said the reopening would feature "new screens, new laser projectors, [and] upgraded comfort".
