Beo Crescent curry rice stall closes after operating since 1988

Beo Crescent No Name Hainanese Curry Rice at the Block 40 Beo Crescent coffee shop has ceased operations.

The news was confirmed in a social media update on Sep. 30.

The message in Chinese and English was crafted by the children of the food stall owners, Pang Tao Chin, 79, and Madam Mo.

It announced: "We have ceased operations at our current location as of today. For decades, this stall has been a labour of love for my parents, faithfully weaving memories with all of you through every dish served."

"Now, it's time to gently close this cherished chapter at this place," it added.

The post thanked regular customers for extending gifts in the last few days.

It also expressed gratitude on behalf of the owners and long-time staff.

The stall had been operating since 1988.

Still held out hope it will continue

A week before the closure announcement, it was reported that Madam Mo had said the closure was temporary as the coffee shop was changing hands and undergoing renovations.

The news was met with hope that the stall would remain at its location after a brief break.

And before that, on Sep. 21, the stall owners' children had said in social media posts: "We're still talking to the new owners and doing what we can to work something out so the stall can continue at the current location."

End of an era

In response to the impending closure announcements, long queues formed at the stall with no official signboard as many wanted to try the food one last time.

The stall was known for its hearty fare, such as crispy pork chop, fried prawns and rice drenched in curry.
