M'sian man, 33, weighing 138kg, accidentally steps on & kills girlfriend's daughter, 3
The man visibly lost weight when he appeared in court and was given a 10-year jail sentence for manslaughter.
A 33-year-old Malaysian man was given a 10 years' jail sentence for manslaughter on Oct. 30 for accidentally trampling on and killing his girlfriend's three-year-old daughter in 2022.
He weighed 138kg then.
Incident
According to Malaysia media Sin Chew Daily, Ahmad Ashraf, a technician, was caring for the girl in 2022 in his home at Kota Tinggi, Malaysia, while his girlfriend was ill.
At about 3:30am on Jul. 20, 2022, he walked into the girl's room in the dark to give her milk, but accidentally stepped on her chest, causing her to hypervenetilate.
Ashraf reportedly only realised something was wrong after he turned the light on.
He then attempted to provide first aid before taking her to the hospital where she eventually succumbed to her injuries and died.
He turned himself into the police and was arrested on the same day.
Charges
In court on Oct. 30, the media noted that Ashraf had noticeably lost weight.
He was estimated to be taller than 180cm.
He was handed a charge for manslaughter without intent to kill after the judge considered a number of leniency factors, including Ashraf's active cooperation in investigations following the incident and the absence of any aggression used by Ashraf.
The court also noted that he had asked his girlfriend for forgiveness and reflected on the incident deeply.
