Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan to attend 80th UN General Assembly session in New York

He will deliver Singapore's statement and be accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Gan Siow Huang.

Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan will attend the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) from Sep 22 to 27.

He will deliver Singapore's national statement at the UNGA general debate in New York on Sep. 27, Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said on Sep. 21.

He will be accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Gan Siow Huang.

She will represent Singapore at the High-Level Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, as well as be at the Atlantic, Indian Ocean, and South China Sea SIDS Ministerial Meeting.

Gan will also attend key UN events, MFA said.

They include the High-Level Special Event on Climate Action, the High-Level Meeting on the 30th Anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, and the Biennial Summit for a Sustainable, Inclusive and Resilient Global Economy.

Balakrishnan and Gan will have a series of bilateral engagements with foreign counterparts and U.S. interlocutors based in New York, MFA also said.

They will be accompanied by MFA officials.

Foreign minister's attending multiple meetings

The 80th Session of the UNGA debate begins on Sep. 23, with the theme "Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights".

Balakrishnan will also deliver a statement on behalf of the Global Governance Group (3G) in the second G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

He will also host several high-level events, including the 3G Ministerial Meeting, and a reception for the Forum of Small States, as well as co-chair the 8th ASEAN-Pacific Alliance Ministerial Meeting with Colombia.

He will deliver a statement at the UN Security Council High-Level Open Debate on Artificial Intelligence and International Peace and Security, and also represent Singapore at the Alliance of Small Island States Leaders’ Meeting.
