Yishun killing: Man, 66, allegedly stabbed couple over 'noise dispute', arrested for murder
Police investigations are ongoing.
The Yishun stabbing that resulted in the death of a woman on Sep. 24 supposedly emerged from a "noise dispute" between neighbours.
A 66-year-old man allegedly attacked a couple, aged 30 and 33, with a knife.
The woman was seen covered in wounds and "completely drenched in blood", a witness said.
She later died in hospital.
Stabbing at Yishun
The attack took place at around 7am this morning at Block 323 Yishun Central.
A witness told The Straits Times that he heard "screams and a commotion" and saw the woman lying unconscious near the lift.
The husband attempted to fend off their knife-wielding assailant, and yelled for someone to help his wife.
He ended up getting stabbed as well.
During the scuffle, a neighbour quickly pulled the injured couple's young sons into their flat and closed the door, said the witness, who gave his name as Koh.
Another resident also intervened and tried to split them up by taking the knife from the older man and kicking it away.
Ongoing dispute
The noise dispute was reportedly over the couple's young children making noises, said a resident who gave his name as Ismail.
The children are believed to be around two and five years old.
He told ST that the dispute has been going on for "years".
"The couple usually keep to themselves, but I think the man was not happy with their children playing and making noise," he said.
The mother often was seen taking her children to childcare in the morning, he added.
Another resident, Othman Omar, said the alleged assailant had just visited him over the weekend to chat.
He enjoyed talking about plants and cared for his neighbours, he said.
"He sent me dates during Ramadan and even gave my family essential oils after his visit to Saudi Arabia," he recalled.
The couple had been living in the estate for around two years, while the alleged attacker had been living there longer, residents said.
Alleged murder
In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said they received multiple calls for assistance over the case.
Upon arrival, three people were seen lying injured on the sixth-floor corridor.
A 31-year-old Vietnamese woman was conveyed unconscious to hospital where she subsequently died, while two Chinese men, 33 and 67, were conveyed conscious to hospital.
The older man was arrested on suspicion of murder.
The police spokesperson said the fight arose from a noise dispute.
ST reported that a police officer was seen speaking with a bald man, who sat on the ground with blood smeared over his legs.
Police investigations are ongoing.
