'Suspicious', 'unknown' parcel delivered to Serangoon mosque, 1 person taken to hospital

A "suspicious" and "unknown" parcel was delivered to the Al-Istiqamah Mosque in Serangoon on Sep. 24.
In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said that officers were alerted to the case at 2 Serangoon North Avenue 2 at around 5:20pm.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) also confirmed that an "unknown" parcel was found in the premises.
Area cordoned off, public advised to stay clear
According to the police, authorities are at the scene to assess and manage the situation.
The mosque was evacuated by police and SCDF officers as a precautionary measure.
Members of the public are also advised to avoid the area.
When Mothership visited the location, the mosque could be seen already cordoned off, with SCDF vehicles outside the building.
Investigations ongoing
SCDF told Mothership that it received a call for assistance at the mosque at around 5:45pm.
Upon arrival, an "unknown" parcel was found in the premises.
SCDF confirmed that the area has been cordoned off.
SCDF HazMat Specialists conducted checks with detectors and confirmed that no hazardous substances were found.
One person was assessed for breathlessness and sent to Sengkang General Hospital.
Muis’ statement
The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) stated in a Facebook post that it is aware that the mosque received a suspicious parcel on Sep. 24.
Muis said it is working closely with the authorities on this matter.
