Multi-colored vapes of all shapes and sizes lie strewn across the Causeway heading towards Singapore.

This unsightly scene was captured in a TikTok video on Sep. 14.

In it, the caption reads, “POV: you’re otw back to sg from jb”.

Users were quick to chime in on the situation, with most noting that at least the litterers were responsible enough to avoid bringing the vapes into Singapore.

Singapore government cracks down on vapes

The panicked littering could be a result of the Singapore government’s latest efforts to combat vape usage.

From Sep. 1, 2025, etomidate-laced vape pods will be classified as a Class C drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act (MDA).

The possession or use of etomidate under this new act can carry penalties of up to 10 years' imprisonment and a fine of S$20,000.

Trafficking can also result in harsher penalties, such as being jailed for up to 10 years and being given five strokes of the cane.

Malaysia's vape ban

Malaysia is also ramping up its efforts against vape usage.

On Sep. 10, Malaysia's Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said that the country will gradually ban electronic cigarettes and vaporisers.

This ban will be implemented in phases, with the focus first being directed at "open-system" vape devices.

As of now, six states in Malaysia have banned the sale of e-cigarettes or vapes: Johor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Perlis, Kedah, and Pahang.
