Single-storey toilet at Kallang Park Connector being built since 2022 to open in Oct. 2025 after multiple delays
Opening soon.
Kallang Park Connector stretches about 8km from Bishan to Kallang. It’s quite a nice little stretch to walk, with perhaps a slight area of improvement suggested by some.
This comment was made about a year ago.
Good news: Construction on a toilet started in 2022.
Not so good news: It’s still not open.
Here’s a picture from a Mothership reader of the timeline taken sometime last year.
And one later that year, in August 2024.
He noted that the project by the National Parks Board (NParks) had seen several delays, with the toilet originally slated for completion by 2023.
Here’s a more updated version in September 2024.
The scheduled completion date has been pushed back, but the date of the permit issued also seems to have changed.
There also appears to have been a change in builder.
The previous builder, Logistics Construction, is a subsidiary of Boldtek, which underwent compulsory liquidation in 2024.
Prior to that, the company had been placed under MOM's Business Under Surveillance programme, which is to help "poor-performing companies improve their workplace safety and health (WSH) performance".
It was listed under the programme till at least Jan. 28, 2022.
Here’s what the toilet looks like now.
NParks response
Responding to Mothership's queries, NParks group director of Parks Central, Tan Jun Chao, confirmed that the toilet is expected to be completed and will open to the public in October 2025.
Tan attributed the delays to "unforeseen circumstances" after work commenced.
First, technical site constraints, such as sewer connections underground, were discovered after the project commenced.
Tan said this required further consultation with "agencies and relevant stakeholders" to develop alternative sewerage solutions.
Secondly, the contractor had to be changed as the original contractor encountered "financial distress".
This resulted in additional time spent settling arrears to suppliers, sub-contractors and consultants, as well as to onboard the replacement contractor.
Tan said construction work for the toilet has since been completed, and the National Parks Board is currently working with relevant authorities to obtain final operational approval for the facility.
