He confessed to his own wife.
A married 42-year-old man in Indonesia, Suryadi, has been arrested on suspicion of murdering his teenage "girlfriend", Sinar Harian reported.
The 15-year-old secondary school student was killed following a dispute over an iPhone.
The case was uncovered when the perpetrator confessed to his wife and attempted to take his own life.
Details of the case
“Based on the perpetrator's statement, the assault occurred because the perpetrator was annoyed with the victim,” said the police chief assigned to the case, as quoted by Indonesian media outlet detikSumbagsel.
The both of them met around 7am on Sep. 15 after having watched a show together.
It was then that the deadly argument occurred.
The victim supposedly asked Suryadi for an iPhone worth around 8 million rupiah (S$624).
However, Suryadi was only able to give her 3 million rupiah (S$234) instead.
The victim became angry and threw the money at his face, triggering a fight.
Suryadi said he quickly became overwhelmed and alleged that the teenager possessed “martial arts” skills.
In order to defend himself, he allegedly picked up a piece of wood and beat his lover till she was unconscious.
He then allegedly threw her body into a river.
Murder revealed
ADR’s body was later discovered floating in a river in Gunung Batin Udik Village in Lampung, Indonesia on Sep. 17.
According to the police, Suryadi regretted his own actions and attempted to commit suicide by swallowing poison.
He also confessed his actions to his own wife.
However, his family intervened and he was taken to the hospital.
The girl's body was also recovered after being found floating in the river.
While Suryadi is being detained for further investigation into the crime, he is still not able to be fully questioned as he is undergoing treatment in the hospital, the police chief said.
