Hong Kong bus driver, 60, stabbed by 1.5m metal rod that cracked windscreen in freak accident

A 60-year-old bus driver in Hong Kong was stabbed in the chest by a 1.5-metre-long metal rod while driving along a highway on Sep. 15.
He sustained injuries and was able to pull the bus to a stop before receiving medical attention, The Standard reported.
A 43-year-old truck driver has been arrested in relation to the accident, on suspicion of dangerous driving.
Freak accident
The incident occurred at about 5pm on the Tsing Long Highway, which connects Tsing Yi Island to Yuen Long, Hong Kong.
The bus driver was operating a crowded Citybus, which serves cross-harbour routes across Hong Kong, when he passed through a gantry on the highway.
A loud bang was reportedly heard by passengers, followed by the driver's calls for help.
He managed to calmly pull the bus to a stop while conscious and alert in order to prevent further accidents.
Passengers described seeing the rod lodged in the driver's chest while a hole was seen in the bus's cracked windshield.
One called for the police and emergency services, who found that the driver has sustained minor injuries after arriving at the scene.
He was transported to Pok Oi Hospital, Yuen Long, while the scene was cordoned off for investigations.
The cause of the incident remains unclear, though initial investigations found that the rod had been run over by another vehicle and propelled through the air before breaking through the windshield.
The driver, who is receiving medical care, was lauded for his composure professionalism in ensuring the safety of the passengers on board.
