Hao Mart and its tenants are to vacate and hand over the premises at Taste Orchard by Dec. 31, 2025, Business Times reported.

The building's landlord OG has terminated its 7.5-year lease agreement with master tenant Hao Mart.

Taste Orchard, touted as a food-focused mall, opened less than two years ago.

Hao Mart reportedly said its management will reach out to tenants soon for further discussion, according to BT.

Taste Orchard’s first two levels are occupied by food operators. such as Warabimochi Kamakura, BHC Chicken and Sushiro.

An OG spokesperson told BT: “The retail and F&B industries are undergoing a period of profound transformation, shaped by a confluence of economic headwinds, shifting consumer expectations, and a complex regulatory environment.”

“Hao Mart has not been immune from such challenges,” it was added.

Mothership has reached out to OG for comment.

No clear signs of impending closure

When Mothership paid a visit on Saturday, Sep. 13, there was no sign that the food mall was closing.

BHC Chicken, a fried chicken eatery on the ground floor, was still packed at about 8pm.

In a follow-up statement to Mothership, BHC Chicken Singapore said HAO mart is not BHC Chicken’s master franchiser.

Neither does BHC Chicken Singapore operate under HAO mart, and that BHC Chicken Pte Ltd holds the master franchise rights in Singapore.

The BHC Chicken outlet at Taste Orchard closed on Sep. 14, according to BT.

The supermarket on the second floor appeared stocked with goods, but some sections were empty.

Hao Mart's supermarket Eccellente used to occupy the basement level, but stopped in April 2025.

Other initiatives that failed to take off, included a live seafood station and butchery, as well as cooking classes.

Did not see end coming

Existing tenants said they did not see the end coming, although BT reported in July 2025 that smaller tenants in the mall had slow sales and low footfall.

An Asian minimart had just moved into the third floor.
