Family from China devours 5.5kg of durian outside Thailand airport as fruit banned from plane
They smelled like durian while boarding.
A family from China did not want to let fresh durian go to waste.
So, they ate 5.5kg of it — while standing outside the Chiang Mai International Airport in Thailand as they could not take the fruit with them on their flight home.
The Sep. 16 incident was shared on Douyin by Li, one of the durian eaters.
It has received some 186,100 like reactions in three days.
The in-video caption read:
"When you have a stubborn father who bought 5.5kg of durian before a flight, and your family has no choice but to finish it."
Gagging
The video showed a man gorging on durian outside the airport.
He appeared to gag at one point.
The video explained that Li's father had bought several boxes of fresh durian that morning for the family's consumption before the flight back to China.
However, the family ate a few meals before arriving at the airport.
As they figured they could not bring the fruit on the plane, they decided to wolf it down.
Too much durian
The father could be seen opening up a plastic bag with durian inside as Li ate with difficulty.
Li said each family member ate four to five pieces of durian each.
But it was too much for him, he said: “I ate so much that I never want to see durian in my life again.”
He quipped that his family smelled of durian when they boarded the plane and had to apologise to fellow passengers.
Some commenters were amused by the family's determination not to let an expensive fruit go to waste, while others commiserated that they did the same before.
